After A.D.: Derrick Guild

17 October - 22 November 2013

“The notion of Durer’s animal actually being an illusion, and a kind of piecing together of different animals to create such a singularly exquisite and believable painting really sparked my imagination” Guild 2013

Scottish artist Derrick Guild’s forthcoming exhibition entitled ‘After A.D’, is the same title given to a major work in the exhibition that Guild painted in response to discovering that Albrecht Durer’s iconic painting of a ‘Hare’ was anatomically incorrect. Guild’s use of ‘A.D.’ cleverly refers both to the abbreviation of ‘Anno Domini’ and the initials of German artist Albrecht Durer, whose painting ‘Hare’ held a hypnotic fascination for Guild ever since his youth.
