A Change in the Weather: Brian Sayers

18 September - 12 October 2013

My work has developed from my interest in the still life tradition whereby ordinary, ‘overlooked’ objects are spread out on a table or counter as if ready for inspection or even merely abandoned as junk. As in paintings from previous periods in history, there is a suggestion of symbolism or significance. But what this might be has, in my work, become vague or confused. Ostensibly neutral paraphernalia has become freighted with meaning through the mere face of being singled out for attention within a field of activity, the compositional play of the painting itself. Some of the simple bowls and funnels are in intimate juxtaposition which suggest visual double entendre.
